MARK CHAPMAN : PERU GALLERY

Subject:

Angkor at sunset. Bakheng Hill, Angkor, Cambodia.

Built between 800 and 1200AD Angkor contains over 100 temples built by the ancient kings of Cambodia, the Khymers. These temples are so breathtaking and took so much effort and labour to build over centuries, that ultimately the Khymers lost control of Cambodia and were overrun by Thailand. Each Khymer ruler would try to better the previous ruler by building more inpressive temples, the most famous of these being the Angkor Wat, the largest religious building in the world. Khmers worshiped a mix of Hindu, Buddhist and other Gods.
